I've used Lovefilm for a few years now and have never had any trouble at all.You don't always get your first choice prioritised title but if it's a new release that everyone else wants, that is to be expected.

It is certainly better value than high street Blockbuster stores and all the queues and claustrophobia that come with it.

It is definitely worth a free trial if you've never rented online before.

Much better than last time I tried them for games, and they even started doing the DS. LoveFilm finally got serious about its games. Don't get me wrong, if you run into problems, customer service IS a hassle as per other reviews, but they're cheap, and have the widest selection. Nuff said.

exellent rental service ,if you are renting both games and dvds you need to create a separate list for each you can then allocate priority on what you want delivering otherwise Lovefilm will always send dvds first

I complained as I've waited a week for my rentals, Lovefilm say "Plase note that we are primarily a DVD rental company and you may rent games in addition. However, if you wish to rent games only you may experience some delays." they waived 3 days rental charges even though the delay is a week and counting. Go somewhere else or you'll be disappointed

Great service from LF. I'd been wasting my money on separate DVD and game subs, but I can get them both in one, for about hald the price. Wwish the combined account was the same as movies only, but I'll live with that for less hassle..

i have taken a month month free trial and selected 58 games (nearly all from their list for ps3!!!)... non allocated ... i select one dvd and it is allocated immediately?????

they charge extra to get games but can't provide them ... i have passed information to watchdog as this extra charge for games is unfair if they cannot provide the service.

These forums are usually whinefests, but I have to say Lovefilm do an excellent job on game rental for a damned good price. Flame away, but you simply get good value here, with DVDs as the icing on the cake. Why would I spend just as much on a games only service?

Is it perfect? No. But then all the services I've tried have their faults, and still I've come back to Lovefilm as the biggest and best.

I have grown to dislike Lovefilm immenseley. Their site is the best out there in terms of use. Their customer services people care the most irritating people in customer services land. The may as well send you a mail saying, "we're so big and omnipotent we don't actually give a toss about what you say, but we're going to send you an inane and pointless reply answering none of your gripes whilst smiling at you and spitting 'have a nice day' in your face".

There turnaround is terrible too.

Don't have an alternative to them for games yet, but (amazingly) Blockbuster do dvd so much better. In fact, even Cinema Paradiso do it better.

For films only they are fine, delivery is good and range of titles delivered is quite good. For games they are next to hopeless, they just don't have enough to meet the demand meaning that while you pay monthly to rent games you will probably not get one each month. Customer service dismissed my queries regarding supply of games, they just weren't interested.

I have used lovefilm for a while now. On the down side I have several PS3 games on priority but have only ever recieved 1 in the last 3 months....On the up side I have been sent several Wii games & the DVD service is good too, if you keep plenty of options in your list the turn around is pretty good aswell.

Very slick site with plenty of features, can't imagine how to make the search and browsing easier, lots of other content too, from movie news to short downloads. On the snail mail side, the discs come fairly quick, so no complaints, not all your top choices of course, but you've got to go into this knowing its a library and new releases simply will take longer to get out with strong demand. As an ex-Netflix customer from when I lived in the states, I have to say Lovefilm compares very well on this count, though I do wish the price were a bit cheaper, compared with the US sites, though that has as much to do with the weak dollar and things being generally more expense over here, but I digress...

In general, I've found Lovefilm an excellent, world class DVD rental company, not surprised they're the market leader in the UK (even if undeservedly ranked second on this site).

I've used the lovefilm film rental - and it works fine. However when I extended the rental to cover games I found that I was recieving extra films and not the games I was after. So far I havent received a single game disc. I'm going to be dropping the lovefilm service and intend to go for a competitor that can actually deliver on their promises.

Reading many reviews and taking my own experience into consideration, their seems to be a trend of fatal errors in procedure by Lovefilm that only tend to happen when a customer is abouts to leave the service.

Coincidently, these fatal errors in most cases result in the account failing to be cancelled before the next monthly charge is due to be taken by lovefilm. Hence, Lovefilm recieve more money.

Sadly in many of these cases their is only so much that the customer can do to prevent this, and it seems that Lovefilm manage to fail to such an extent during cancellation, that even the most vigilante of customers will fall foul.

My case is as follows. When recieving an incorrect disc, I returned this and reported using the correct procedure via the website that they had sent me the wrong disc.

After noticing it listed as a "damagedwrong disc that I need to return" I contacted customer services and was assured that they had indeed recieved the incorrect disc and not to worry about the one listed on the website.

Of course when I came to cancel my account a number of days before being due to be billed, the cancel status remained pending even after my discs were returned because of the said disc.

I began contact with customer services a number of days before being due to be billed, but although I recieved fairly swift replies, they repeatedley asked me questions to questions about information I had already made clear.

i.e. can you confirm you have returned this disc, can you confirm you recieved the wrong disc. When of course I had already clearly stated this. This managed to stretch the issue beyond the payment date and upon taking the money I was charged for going overdrawn.

They refuse to on these charges even though they admit they are in error because of article
7.1.3 You agree not to hold us responsible for banking charges incurred due to payments on your account.

I have had exactly the same problem as everyone else. I have been subscribed for 3 months and have about 20 xbox 360 games on priority. I have only been sent one game since i started! Probably because the games cost more than dvd's. Maybe i will e-mail them the complaints people are making about them. Im gonna give them a few more months and if nothing changes i will be cancelling my subscition.

Euan from London , December 20, 2006

I had been a satisfied screenselect customer for almost 2 years until i cancelled my subscription last week. Everything was going fine until they merged with lovefilm, and i decided to start using the game rental service that i had started paying a premium for.

with the 360 rentals available, i decided to load my rental list up with 360 games for the holiday - i added 15 - 20 games to the top of my rental list mid november - since then i have recieved 2 of these games. thats 2 items out of the top 20 in my selection. I found this especially strange as the new lovefilm based site is supposed to alert you if items on your list have a wait for availability.

In an attempt to guarantee some games just before christmas, i removed all items from my list except for 5 films at the lowewst priority and 17 games at the highest, more than the 16 item minimum. Today lovefilm notified me of the three films i would be watching over christmas.

it is also worth mentioning that the processing time between them recieving returned dvds and posting out new ones has increased from 1 day to up to 3 days since the lovefilm merger, as well as an increase in unplayable dvds.

Having a game rental service is only worth it if you can actually rent games, and i cant afford to pay 2 subscriptions - which is why i ended up on this site!

I was using them as Screenselect for a few months for DVD's and they were great - once they merged into Lovefilm things have gone downhill- I added XB360 titles to my list ( at an extra 1 per month ) and in the past
3 months have only ever received ONE XB360 title - even after prioritising all my games selections to high.....so I am cancelling my subscription...Oh and Customer service is obviously offshored because they don't understand plain English.

Brilliant, was with them for a while for a free trial then tried for a month - left then to check out all the other companys trials and by that time lovefilm had sent me a 3 months for 1 offer:) totally brilliant, not needing to pay till next year and am getting 6-9 DVDs a week from them, though their 360 games move a bit slower and theirs not been a new title added for sometime now)

have been a member of Screenselect / Lovefilm for a fair few months now, but am slowly beginning to realise that they haven't much of a clue about games... With all the great games for Xbox 360 coming out over the next few months(and just come out recently) they hardly have any new titles to add - hence me being on here looking for a better equipped company... As for customer service... All my titles are hidden - I asked how to reverse this - they told me that I should use the search bar... nice solution - especially if you don't know what you are looking for. And sort out the speed of the site...

Screenselect seemed to be ok untill they merged with Lovefilm now THEY ARE AWFUL FOR RENTING GAMES!! The newest game they have is import tuner challange which is pants, since that game has been released, there have been releases such as PRO EVO 6, FIFA 07, Call of Duty 3 etc but they are no where to be found on lovefilm!!! I don't even think they are that good with dvd's either most of the films are straight to rental dross! I for one will be cancelling my subscription to lovefilm/screenselect.

Pretty good for DVDs but really, really ABYSMAL when it comes to xbox360 games. They'll try their very best to send out the lowest priority DVD instead of an xbox360 game. I had 9 games that i wanted to play but had to put a DVD on my wishlist to fill the quota, and they ignored the high priority xbox360 games and sent me out the crap DVD every time for 2 months!!! DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOUR MAIN REASON FOR JOINING IS XBOX360 GAMES.
Whenever I asked for any sort of request, they always sent out a prewritten repsonse that was written years ago. Something tells me they receive continuous complaints regarding their poor games service.

They are pretty good value at £14.99 a month for 3 games/dvds but the selection of games on the xbox 360 has gotten VERY poor recently - wheres pro evo 6, fifa 07, splinter cell etc. I don't really want to play the same old games the whole idea of a game rental site is so that you can play the latest games. Customer serive is pretty good, games are turn around quite quickly and you get thru to themon the phone quickly, but not too happy with the foreign call centre!!

The design is terrible, impossible to browse throught games, and you have to search for specific titles to find half of them. What customer service? They take weeks to respond to e-mails and even then they are just standard ones they copy and paste from a book. Rubbish service all round, spend your money at FlirtRental - miles better service.

Cant praise these enough, i can gurantee you wont find a better site in all these here, for choice of games, and service, untill blockbuster start doing games i guess. Just resigned on a great 3 month for one deal, and already had 4 games in the space of 5 days, superb. 1 gripe well 2 really, no instructions , but most sites dont give those out, and worst of all NO phone number, sacrilige i am afraid in todays market.

Lovefilm and Screenselect have now merged into one company, the following reviews are for the original Screenselect component of the company:

Chris from Sheffield , October 3, 2006

I'm over half way through my trial and by keeping just one DVD on my list at a time I've managed to get a fair amount of the games I wanted, the proirity system doesn't quite work as well as I hoped, but they probably
have limited stock of games anyway. I opted for the 3 disc trial since it lets you change package at any time. I'm thinking about going for there new £5.99 1 disc (max 2 per month) package, which is a real steal for games
really since I'd most likely be keeping a game for a few weeks anyway. I'd get slightly annoyed if they sent low proirity stuff out to me and wasted a rental but I'll just have to keep a close eye on my list. I've never seen a package for as low as £5.99 so I think this is worth mentioning. Also they appear to be merging with Lovefilm, I hope this doesn;t affect their gaming library, since Lovefilm only do PS2 and PSP.

Excellent for films but I recently put mainly games on my list and have not received anything at all for over a week. My emails were ignored until I finally received one saying - we are primarily a DVD rental site. So

Pete, September 18, 2006

I have been with Screenselect for over two years now and for DVDs they are great. But for games, oh my god, they are awful! The problem is that if I want games as well as films I need to go with Swapgame for £20 a month, and Screenselect for £15 a month, giving a total of £35! Why can't Screenselct sort this out so that customers have the choice of film or game without having to go to seperate companies? If you want games and films then I'm afraid it's seperate companies. I have 13 games in my selection and no films and have been waiting for over a week now with no delivery; Screenselect you suck!!!

Pete from Cornwall , August 7, 2006

I'll agree with the others that it can be a bit of struggle to get games out of Screenselect as their main business seems to be DVDs, but I have rearranged my wishlist so all the games are high priority and DVDs are at the bottom and try to make sure I only have about a third of my wishlist as DVDs, and this way I do seem to get games more often than I was before. I do like being able to get my games and DVDs from one place at one price, and the turnaround is pretty quick. I tend to hang on to a game for twice as long as a DVD anyway (at least) so actually being sent DVDs while I'm still playing a game works quite well for me. Other than that, the site is well laid out and turnaround time is good, and they have a lot of titles, so I'm pretty satisfied and will stick with them for a while at least.

This site is great for DVDs. It is, and i've got an e-mail o prove it, only providing the games as an addon and is not considering this side of the business with any great priority. While i myself have managed to get a game during my trial period, i recommend a few friends who have had nothing but trouble. I'll be cancelling during when the trial is over.

Wayne, August 2, 2006

Apparently they are only new to game rentals.....that was their excuse for my waiting a week for a game to be despatched, and that was within the trial period. At least the cancel account button was easy to find on their website.

William from London , July 22, 2006

It's impossible to get games from this company. I have had 6 XBox 360 games on my wishlist at the highest priority for over two months and in that time they've sent me over 30 movies and not one game, despite my writing to complain twice. They clearly keep very low stocks of games compared to movies - if you want games, don't bother with ScreenSelect.

More annoying though is that their *unlimited* package is in no way *unlimited*. For the first month they will turn discs around the day they get them back every time - I got about 24 in the first month. The very day my trial ended they started time wasting, and in the second month I got 12 discs. They seem to have a quota for their unlimited policy which you cannot exceed. On top of the fact that they don't work on Saturdays or Sundays (WTF?), if you're thinking you can get through 30 discs a month, think again
- 12's your limit. The practice of advertising an unlimited service and then mitigating it with a fair usage policy is a disgusting abuse of trust which amounts to false advertising and should be banned in my opinion.

ScreenSelect's site is well designed and easy to use, but the service you get is far short of the service advertised. They also have a sneaky way of discouraging you from canelling; you pay monthly, but as soon as you cancel you receive no more discs - so what do you do? wait until the day before your next payment to cancel of course. What happens? They tell you on the final "are you sure?" screen that they cannot cancel payment until all discs have been returned which of course they haven't been, because you left it too late. Cancel a week before the next payment date and send your discs back, otherwise you'll be paying for another month.

Although I haven't used Screenselect for games that much, I've been with them for over a year, since Mailbox Movies merged with them (which I joined over three years ago). Between the two companies I've rented over 170 DVDs and none of them have ever gone missing in the post, the envelopes are well designed and they send the next DVD very quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, and as you can prioritise your request list into three categories, as long as you put all the games into category 1 and the DVDs into Category 2 or even 3, the chances are that you'll get more games than DVDs come through.

Because of the high cost of gaming i signed up to screenselect so that i could get 360 game rentals rather than paying over the top amounts for games i wouldnt really play that much. Screenselect offer a great range of games and DVDs, but it seems that they are not very serious about their games rental service. A month after signing up i have only seen 1 xbox 360 game (King Kong) even though my list has had only 360 games (around 26) on it except for three DVDs and one PS2 game. After only recieving the DVDs and PS2 games i removed all the DVDs from my list. It seems now that they are simply not going to send me anything as i have been waiting 3 days now for allocation of new games when before it was done within a day.

I've had a few issues with getting games off these guys - I think they're more DVD-oriented, but have now worked out that if I keep the list in 'my selection' short they seem to send me games more - and I've now received Elder Scrolls so am pretty impressed as its in high demand. Will see how it goes in the final 2 weeks of the trial but may well carry on my subscription because I do like to rent DVDs too so it is convenient.

These guys are great at movie rental, but when it comes to game rental they really suck... You can tell their site is written for movies and then games have been added on as an after thought, release date were wrong, descriptions were incorrect, and some titles were even under the wrong console. I filled my list with over 20 games, like they recommend!!! Yet it still took them over a week to send me a game that was at the bottom of my list. Another point I was then happy about was this 30 day free trial.. yes it is 30 days but you can only rent 6 games in that time, again POOR.

I Joined screenselect from Blockbuster who were the worst of the worst. Initially i was happy with screenselect until i wanted to rent an xbox360 game (o the pain) i selected the games i would like then as per i was prompeted to select more titles incase the ones i picked were unavialble. I thought fair enough so i selected all XBOX 360 titles avialble still it prompted for more. So i added some DVD's to make up the numbers, it seemed happy after that. so i left it and eagerly awaited my games. Postie comes and what does he have for me DVD's So i watch and return and wair postie comes again and again with more DVD's even though i selected them as not important. They never have games available so binned them. PS there customer service is terrible i was stunned at the poor support and the lack of willingness to help. AVOID!!!!!!! Wish i had could have saved a fiew quid.
